Luka Modric, a star for Real Madrid, has stated that it is his “dream” to retire from the team, but he won’t make a choice until after the World Cup.
In an effort to lead his nation to a second World Cup final after reaching it in 2018, Modric has led Croatia back to the semifinals for a second time in a row.
After agreeing to a new 12-month contract last summer, the 37-year-old’s Real contract expires at the end of the current campaign. Although he won his fifth Champions League championship in May and started all but one of Los Blancos’ games in the previous season’s competition, he still plays a crucial role for the team.
“What happens next, let’s see, there’s enough time to talk about everything,” Modric told reporters ahead of Croatia’s semi-final clash with Argentina.
“Of course, I want to retire in Madrid, I’ve said that many times. You can’t say anything for 100 per cent, but that’s my idea, and it’s a dream for me.”
Modric moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2012. In 2003, he was already a rising star at Dinamo Zagreb, and in 2006, he made his debut for Croatia at the World Cup. He will compete in his fourth World Cup and eighth major international competition at the 2022 finals in Qatar.
