Marcus Rashford’s muscle injury will likely prevent him from being recalled to Gareth Southgate’s England team for the September internationals.
The 24-year-poor old’s performance last season—his return of five goals in 32 games was his worst for Manchester United since he broke into the first team—led to his lack of selection for the Three Lions since November 2021.
Rashford, however, has started the new season in excellent form for Erik ten Hag’s revamped Red Devils, leading the line, and was poised to force his way back into the squad for the final round of internationals before the World Cup.
Rashford scored twice in their 3-1 victory over Arsenal, but he will likely miss the next few weeks to concentrate on his recovery due to a muscle injury.
Ten Hag confirmed on Wednesday that the forward has not travelled to Moldova for United’s Europa League match against FC Sheriff, but that the situation is not serious.
“I don’t think [he will be out for] too long, but I cannot tell how long. It’s not really bad and we expect him to be back quite soon,” he said.
Rashford won’t get one more chance to wow Southgate up close, but Jadon Sancho might get a call-up in exchange for his similarly quick start to the season. Since October 2021, the winger has not been selected for the Three Lions.
