Cristiano Ronaldo’s early departure from the preseason draw on Sunday will not result in punishment from Manchester United, but a club insider reportedly expressed disappointment in the player.
The 37-year-old returned to the squad for Old Trafford’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano. Ronaldo played for 45 minutes before being substituted by Erik ten Hag, the new manager.
Prior to the final whistle, Ronaldo left Old Trafford instead of remaining with the rest of the team.
His Portugal teammate Diogo Dalot also made the decision to leave before the game was over, so he wasn’t the only one.
The Sun claims that United will not penalise either player. The newspaper was reportedly informed of the disappointment regarding Ronaldo’s actions by a club insider.
“It is not a good look to leave early when you have been involved in the squad,” a source reportedly said.
“It is different if you are up in the stands and not involved. You would expect someone who has played in the game to be in the changing rooms at the end to listen to the manager’s thoughts.
“Also a lot of people were there to see him and he was not even involved in the clapping of the fans after the final whistle.”
