Robert Lewandowski seemed to bid farewell to Bayern Munich supporters after their last Bundesliga game of the season, amid transfer rumours.
The 33-year-old contract expires in 2023, and he has informed Bayern that he will not sign an extension.
The attacker is expected to join Barcelona in the summer, and his actions at the conclusion of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg will feed the fire.
Lewandowski clapped the away end before turning away, tears in his eyes.
Thomas Muller approached his old buddy and exchanged a few words before placing his palm on his chest.
Lewandowski then clapped again for the supporters before heading over to his teammates.
Supporters are convinced he’ll be moving on after eight years at the Allianz Arena.
After Josip Stanisic’s opening, Lewandowski netted his 50th goal of the season to put Bayern up 2-0 in the first half.
Wolfsburg would re-enter the game through Jonas Wind, and Max Kruse would convert after the interval to ensure the points were split.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side won the Bundesliga for the tenth time in a row and were awarded with the trophy following last week’s draw with Stuttgart.
The future of Lewandowski is still a heated subject in Bavaria, and Barcelona is certain they can sign him for £25 million.
Despite the Pole’s attitude, Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is sure that he will fulfill his current contract.
“He informed me that he does not want to accept our offer to extend the contract and that we would like to leave,” Salihamidzic explained to Sky Germany. “He said he wants to do something else.”
When pushed further, he replied: “Our position has not changed. The fact is he has a contract to June 30, 2023.”
Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, Lewandowski has won eight Bundesliga championships and the Champions League in 2020, the year he would have been a favorite for the Ballon d’Or.
Due of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Ballon d’Or was not awarded for the first time in history.
In all, he has 344 goals in 374 appearances and is the club’s second-highest goalscorer, after only Gerd Muller.
