Thomas Tuchel has made the most ridiculous allegation, claiming that Chelsea are the only, and probably the first, team suffering as a result of their impending ownership change.
KemiFilani reports that Chelsea has been on the market since early this year, with Roman Abramovich intending to sell in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The billionaire’s sanctions accelerated things, and the club also faced sanctions since they couldn’t earn any money and couldn’t sell tickets or products.
While the club has been unable to purchase or sell anyone, their punishments have not occurred during a transfer window, so they are largely unconcerned, especially because Antonio Rudiger has never appeared likely to sign a new contract.
Tuchel, on the other hand, has said that it’s all been a significant distraction for the squad, and has sensationally overlooked Derby County and Oldham Athletic to say that it’s the first time anyone has gone through what they’re going through.
“It has for sure, I don’t think there’s any sense in hiding from the fact that it is a distraction,” he told his pre match press conference, ahead of the game with Leeds United on Wednesday.
“It’s a question of to which level we can still live up to even if we are distracted, worried or disadvantaged by it.
“These are positive signs and it feels like it’s coming to an end which will give us the possibilities to act [in the summer transfer market] but right now, we’re not yet at that moment.”
“We’re the only club at the moment who suffers like this and maybe the first club who ever did this,” the German incredibly added, apparently unaware at the state of the lower leagues.
“It’s a situation that’s unique and quite challenging. Of course, everyone wants it to be clarified.
“These are steps in the right direction. We’ve been waiting for it for a long time because we need the positive energy and the competitive atmosphere as a club.
“That’s why it’s very important that things progress.”
Many clubs in the Football League have seen terrible ownership changes in recent years, putting clubs in turmoil and facing administration or extinction.
The Blues’ troubles are not directly related to money and have been imposed by the government, which is a more unusual take on ownership concerns.
However, the club has been more than glad to accept Abramovich’s money with few questions and much success, making it difficult for rival supporters to feel sorry for them.
The club is due to have a new owner, with Todd Boehly slated to buy the squad, yet fans have been told that spending will not continue in the same manner.
