Thomas Tuchel has been tapped to lead Ghana as its new national manager.
The German was fired by Chelsea in September after serving as manager for 19 months, during which time the Blues won the Champions League.
In the event that Gareth Southgate leaves his position as England coach, Tuchel, 49, has recently been mentioned.
The Ghana FA, however, has reportedly held preliminary discussions with the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain coach about taking over as the Black Stars’ manager.
Otto Addo, the previous manager, resigned after his team finished last in their World Cup group.
Chris Hughton, a former manager of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, Brighton, and Nottingham, is one of the front-runners to lead Ghana.
The 64-year-old former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland defender has served as the Black Stars’ technical advisor this season.
Hughton has also managed Norwich and Birmingham. His father is Ghanaian.
Another name on the six-person shortlist for the position is former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough star George Boateng.
Boateng, a 47-year-old native of Ghana, has been Addo’s assistant since May.
In addition to playing for Coventry, Hull, and Nottingham Forest, the former midfielder represented Holland on four occasions.
Candidates for the position include Serbia coach Dragan Stojkovic, Gambia manager Tom Saintfiet, and former Portugal and South Korea manager Paulo Bento.
