Liverpool have signed Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo on a one-year loan from Juventus.
Since the beginning of the summer, the Reds have been searching for a new midfielder; Jurgen Klopp recently acknowledged that they were unsuccessful in acquiring their top target. A series of injuries has only served to increase their need for reinforcements.
Currently out with injuries are Thiago, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Curtis Jones, who came back to the bench for Wednesday’s victory over Newcastle and saw captain Jordan Henderson leave the field in pain due to a hamstring problem.
Late last month, Klopp acknowledged the need for more midfielders, and now a deal has been reached to bring Arthur in from Juventus.
“I’m really, really happy to be here wearing this great shirt with this famous badge that represents so much in world football, it’s a dream,” Arthur told Liverpool’s official website.
“We talked a lot, and our ideas and visions were a good fit so I’m sure it was the right choice. I’m really happy and highly motivated to continue living my dream on the pitch and giving my all in a Liverpool shirt.”
The 26-year-old was free to leave Juventus and had discussions about moving to Valencia, but he has now signed a one-year loan agreement with Liverpool.
He follows Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, and Calvin Ramsey in securing moves to Anfield to become Liverpool’s fourth summer signing.
