Brazilian forward Joao Pedro’s long-term future has been secured by Watford thanks to a new six-year deal that lasts until the summer of 2028.
Pedro performed admirably in the Premier League last season despite the Hornets’ relegation and subsequent drop to the Championship. The 20-year-old, who can play a variety of attacking positions, has continued to be an important contributor, scoring twice in nine appearances.
His new contract extends his previous one at Vicarage Road by three more years.
As was mentioned in a previous article, Newcastle and Watford were negotiating a possible agreement to bring Pedro to St James’ Park. Despite the fact that Watford valued the deal at £35 million, the Magpies’ offer of £30 million plus add-ons fell short.
Pedro was the subject of interest from other teams besides Newcastle. While Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves were all monitoring the situation, Everton made contact with Watford.
Pedro’s new long-term contract is therefore a major win for Watford, but if he keeps up his performance, he might draw interest once more.
