Liverpool have rejected a £150m offer for Mohamed Salah from Al Ittihad.
The package was £100m up front and another £50m in add-ons.
The Athletic reports that the bid was made during an amicable call to Liverpool director Mike Gordon on Thursday night.
“There is a big money offer on the table but the ambition is [to qualify for] Champions League football at the very least this season,” says Sky Sports News’ Vinny O’Connor.
“It’s not beyond the realms of possibility if they receive a massive offer next summer – and by that point he’ll only have a year left on his contract – it might make sense for all parties that is the time he goes.
“But for now it makes no sense to take him out of that forward line.
“Maybe if that offer had come earlier in the transfer window it would have been a different situation. But who do you bring in at this late stage to replace the goals and influence Salah has on this Liverpool side?
“For now, Salah is not going anywhere.”
