David de Gea, a star for Manchester United, has made it known that he would like to extend his contract at Old Trafford.
Since 2011, the Spaniard has been the Red Devils’ Number 1, but he is now in the final year of his current £375,000-a-week contract.
There is a 12-month contract extension option available to Man United.
De Gea also seems to want to stay even longer, despite recent rumours linking him to Juventus.
The 31-year-old said to BT Sport following yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park: “I’m just very focused on the games helping the team as much as I can.
“Of course, I would like to be here for more years, so let’s see what happens in the future. I’m really, really happy here.”
Dean Henderson was a challenger to De Gea last year; Henderson, a homegrown goalie, joined Nottingham Forest on loan this year.
Tom Heaton is his second choice, and Martin Dubravka, a new hire from Newcastle, is his new deputy.
Last night, Alex Iwobi’s stunning goal beat De Gea, but goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game around.
The seasoned United stopper added following the triumph: “We controlled the game until maybe the last 10 minutes.
“It was massive for our confidence, we have to look forward to the next games. It’s an honour to be here, it’s a privilege.
“It was great to be in goal today, with the team fighting for three points.
“He’s [Ronaldo] never been in this situation before [starting on the bench], but the way he works and trains, it’s just unbelievable. It’s not easy times for him, but he showed he’s a great player.”
With their victory, United moved up to fifth place in the Premier League, just one point outside of the Champions League spots.
