Tammy Abraham, a forward for Roma, has not ruled out a return to his old team Chelsea.
The 25-year-old left Stamford Bridge in 2021 after Thomas Tuchel caused him to lose his starting position, and he had a standout first season in Rome, scoring 27 goals and dishing out six assists in 53 games across all competitions.
Chelsea is thought to have negotiated a buy-back clause with Roma in the £34 million deal that sent Abraham to Roma that is estimated to be worth around €80 million (£70.3 million).
If the clause was activated, Abraham was asked if he would be interested in returning to Chelsea. Abraham told Ojora Babatunde: “My focus is to do exactly what I did last year here.
“I’m happy here, the team is good, the manager’s good, the city, the fans… I’m happy. But you never know the future. Only God knows the future.”
After manager Jose Mourinho changed up his attacking lineup to include new signing Paulo Dybala, Abraham is still adjusting to life at Roma this season, scoring just twice in his first ten games.
It is unclear whether Chelsea will exercise their buy-back clause, but it is evident that the Blues want to restructure their attack in the upcoming months.
Rafael Leao was the subject of discussions with AC Milan in the summer, and Chelsea is currently working diligently to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. To ensure that a deal closes quickly, Chelsea is willing to pay a little bit more than Nkunku’s €60 million release clause.
The Bundesliga team’s incoming youngster Benjamin Sesko, who has already decided to join them from sister club Red Bull Salzburg next summer, has drawn interest from a select few teams, including Chelsea.
