The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is in the final year of his deal with Paris Saint-Germain after leaving Camp Nou as a free agent in the summer of 2021. However, no legal documents have been signed, and those in Catalunya have made it plain that doors will always be open for a club legend if he decides to travel back in time to his roots. New terms in France have been proposed for the legendary Argentine.

When a common subject of conversation came up while Laporta was speaking to local children in Colombia for RAC1, he said: “The boys and girls who interviewed me yesterday asked me about football, about Messi, [Robert] Lewandowski, Pedri, Gavi… They also asked me about Messi when they accompanied me on the walks. They told me that I had to make him return to Barca. I told them that he is from Barca, that we have been lucky to have him, and that we will see. I don’t want to talk about him because he is part of PSG and I don’t want any problem.”
Laporta, the president of Barcelona, and Xavi, the club’s manager, have recently been frequently questioned about their connections to Messi, who has failed to publicly announce his plans for the future despite having a strong campaign at PSG this year.
What’s next?
Messi is currently solely focused on helping Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar; he is not expected to make any club-related announcements until after the Albiceleste return from their trip to the Middle East.
