West Ham’s hope of Champions League qualification was dashed Thursday night following their loss to Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park stadium, Frankfurt city, Germany bringing their European journey this season to a sad end.
However, that was not the only highlight of the night as the 10-man English side had a red card handed to their manager, David Moyes.
KemiFilani reports that David Moyes kicked a ball in anger and was shown a straight red by the lead referee. On the touchline, tempers flared, and it appeared like the West Ham boss booted a ball in rage, earning him a straight red card from the referee.
Kevin Nolan and three of the Frankfurt subs were also involved in a brawl and were given bookings. Moyes was enraged, possibly because a handball was not considered.
Eintracht Frankfurt beat 10-man West Ham United 1-0 in their Europa League semi-final second leg to reach their first European final in 42 years with a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Rafael Borre blasted in the winner for the hosts in the 26th minute in front of a loud 48,000 crowd, defeating the English side for the second time after a 2-1 victory in the first leg last week.
West Ham, who played the majority of the game with 10 men after left defender Aaron Cresswell was sent off in the 17th minute for a harsh foul on Jens Petter Hauge. In a dismal and ugly finale to West Ham’s European journey this season, disappointed manager David Moyes was also sent off in the 79th minute for aggressively kicking a ball.
The fans stormed the pitch in their hundreds as they were allowed to walk down to the side of the pitch four or five minutes before the final whistle.
