Bayern Munich have reportedly decided not to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen during the current summer transfer window.
Bayern Munich are on the lookout for a new striker after Robert Lewandowski, the reigning German champions’ top scorer, confirmed his desire to leave this summer.
Osimhen had been mentioned as a possible Lewandowski replacement at Bayern Munich, but Napoli are reportedly demanding at least €100 million for him.
Because of the high transfer fee quoted by Napoli for Osimhen, Sky Sports News reporter Marc Behrenbeck told Reutir that the German club would not consider signing him.
While Behrenbeck admitted that Osimhen’s performance in the 2021/22 season, as well as Bayern’s need to replace Lewandowski, could lead to a move for the striker, the Germans are unwilling to pay the striker’s current price tag.
“Yes, he (Osimhen) played a great season, is a really good player,” Behrenbeck said, but according to our information it is not currently an issue at FC Bayern.
“Yes, Bayern wants to get another No.9, but it’s not Osimhen. In addition, the requested transfer fee is far too high.” €100m or €110m? No, no way.”
Despite missing over two months due to injury, Osimhen appeared in 32 games for Napoli in all competitions this season, scoring 18 goals and providing six (6) assists to finish as the club’s top scorer.
Lewandowski was also in imperious form for Bayern Munich this season, scoring 50 goals and providing seven (7) assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for the German champions.
Bayern Munich are set to lose their top scorer for a bargain price, as Lewandowski’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June 2023, and if he does not find a new club before then, he will be released for free.
