Taraba Director of Sports George Shitta believes the Super Falcons can make Nigeria proud once more at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
This follows the group’s underwhelming debut game against South Africa.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria fell to Banyana Banyana 1-2 in their Group C debut on Monday.
Shitta claimed that the team needs to begin thorough preparations in order to be ready for their upcoming group matches against Botswana and Burundi.
Before the next game, the technical staff was urged by the director to take the necessary action.
“They need to fortify every department of their game and ensure that no stone is left unturned.
“Amaju Pinnick, the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should encourage them and do the necessary things to boost their morale.
“Super Falcons will make us proud again; they will return home with the trophy for the 10th time and I believe in them,” the Director of Sports said.
According to Shitta, South Africa has been a constant foe in all of our prior WAFCON matches.
“We all wanted to win the match, but this means that the South African team is more prepared than our team. Our players need to put more effort into their subsequent games and listen to the instructions of their coaches.
“We cannot totally blame these girls, they tried their best even though it was not to our advantage. What we need to do now as a nation is to encourage them and if possible pray for them; that is the most important thing they need from us,” he said.
Nigeria’s Group C match at the Prince Heritier Moulay Hassan Stadium will feature Botswana on Thursday and Burundi on July 10.
