The coach of the Crocodiles of Lesotho has revealed why his side was able to get a 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in the 2026 World Cup qualifying game on Thursday.
The Lakuena came to Uyo and left with a viral point as the World Cup commences, putting Nigeria in an early pressure in a group that has the likes of South Africa, Guinea and Zimbabwe.
It was a game everyone expected Jose Peseiro’s side to win but the Super Eagles had to come from behind to earn a draw.
Speaking after the game, coach Leslie Notsi said they had a gameplan going into the game which happened to work perfectly.
The coach said, “Actually we were expecting a very tough encounter. Nigeria is one of the best teams in the continent.
“They’ve qualified for the World Cup and Afcon several times. We came here knowing it would very difficult for us but at the same time we had faith in ourselves…myself and the technical team decided to play to our strengths and in the COSAFA Cup we played to the final and now playing the likes of Nigeria and Cote d’ivoire is good for us.
“Because it’s a platform whereby the players can get exposure to grow. Playing a draw with Nigeria is a big result for us. We need to build from here and see how it goes.”
