Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a Swedish striker, has signed a new 12-month contract, according to AC Milan.
The 40-year-previous old’s contract with the Serie A champions was set to expire earlier this summer, but negotiations for an extension were already well under way at that point, and it was always more a matter of when Ibrahimovic would renew with Milan than if.
Finally, that moment has arrived, as Milan announced on their official website: “AC Milan is pleased to announce that it has concluded an agreement for the right to perform in sports of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The striker from Sweden has a contract with the club that runs through June 30, 2023, and he will keep wearing the Rossoneri number 11 jersey.
Ibrahimovic is thought to have agreed to a significant pay cut to stay with Milan longer, in part because he won’t likely recover from a knee injury until January 2023.
He made 11 starts in Serie A last year, and he’ll eventually be back to provide insurance for a forward line that already features Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic, Rafael Leao, and summer acquisition Divock Origi, who joined on a free transfer from Liverpool.
Aside from his permanent transfer to Spezia, Mattia Caldara, a defender for Milan, has also been confirmed to be leaving on loan.
