As part of the wedding rites of Fatima, daughter of Africa’s Forbes-Listed Billionaire, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Jamil, the pilot son of former Inspector General (IG) of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, a Kamu/Yini night was hosted by her grandmother, Dr Hajiyya Mariya Sanusi Dantata.
The Kamu Amariya is one of the oldest events in the Hausa wedding ceremony. Kamu means catch the bride. The groom’s family comes and negotiates with the bride’s friends for her release to thTime em. They have come for their bride and they are willing to pay any price to have her. This is a fun event and negotiation may take up to 30 minutes followed by a fun reception.
The colouful and highly cultural event had in attendance Former First lady of Nigeria, Mariam Abacha, First Lady of Niger State, Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello, First lady of Kano State, Dr. Hafsatu Abdullahi Granduje, Hajiya Aisha Babangida among others.
This is the second leg of the star-studded wedding. Last Saturday, the couple had a Mother’s Night In Lagos.
