Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has recalled a heartbreaking betrayal she suffered from her friends.
In an interview with her colleague Bimpe Akintunde on her podcast, Iriri Mi, she revealed that her friends spread the rumours that her husband used jazz to marry her. She said they were the ones who claimed she had been hypnotised.
However, she has realised that she has no choice and has surrendered. Debbie said her husband is her best friend, and her daughter, family, and her husband’s family are all she needs.
Debbie added that, looking back, she believes God removed these people from her life to prevent setbacks and a meaningless life.
“Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotised—were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realise I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender.
My husband is my best friend. My son, my family, and my husband’s family—they are all I need.
Looking back now, I see clearly—God took those people out of my life for a reason. If they were still here, maybe my life wouldn’t have meaning. Maybe they would’ve caused setbacks… maybe they would’ve sent me packing from my marriage.
But God stepped in and cleared the path. And I’m thankful.
As I entered this year, I told God I wouldn’t try to control anything. I handed it all over to Him. And truly, He has brought meaning into my life”.
Debbie isn’t the only one venting about fake friendships.
A day back, Uche Ogbodo revealed that she has entered her aura phase as she announced her break-up from baseless friendships. Ogbodo said she was already done with stupīd, baseless, and selfish friendships, and informed the public that if you don’t like her, she doesn’t like them, as she is in her aura for the aura phase.
Early this year, Debbie revealed her resolution and vision. She stated that she was going into 2025 with peace and a positive vibe, and anybody who brings drama or jumps like a frog is avoiding them like a plague. The new mum noted how she didn’t go through all those past challenges to start stressing herself because of what others think or choose to assume about her in their head.
In other news, the new mum had cried out to her colleagues who produce low-quality unworthy movies on the giant streaming app, YouTube. She decried the rate at which people condemn the Yoruba film genre and how she was able to confirm the accusations. She encouraged her colleagues to change the narrative about the Yoruba industry and allow every department for their job.
