American rapper Onika Maraj, better known as Nicki Minaj, has revealed why she chose to work with Nigerian artist Davido.
Kemi Filani reported that the American rapper had featured the Afrobeat singer in her track, “If It’s Okay”. The track is part of the 10th-anniversary special edition of her iconic album, The Pink Print, which was originally released in 2014.
A fan identified as Tae had questioned why the rapper had chosen the singer for the song as he noted how Davido killed it.
“What drew you to Davido for the song “If It’s Okay”? In my opinion, he was an ideal choice for this incredible masterpiece! He was speaking that ish”.
Replying to him, Nicki Minaj said Davido is an incredible writer and melody maker, hence why she chose him. She added that it is always a great pleasure working with him because of their mutual respect for one another. She stated that she asked the singer to be a part of it to bring out the Afro beats.
“That man is an incredible writer & melody maker. It’s always a pleasure working with him b/c of our mutual respect for one another. I asked him to be a part of it to bring out the Afro-beats
tempo/feeling in it a bit more.
Naija to the world”.

This isn’t the first time Nicki and Davido have collaborated. The rapper featured on Davido’s song, Holy Ground from his 2020 A Better Time album.
Recall that when Davido got married in June, Nicki Minaj while performing on her Pink Friday 2 Tour in Gag City, Portugal, had shouted out the couple, congratulating them on their union. To celebrate them, Nicki asked the DJ to play “Holy Ground”.
Over the years, Davido has proven himself to be one of the greatest of his time. He has had quite several successful albums and shows that pulled in thousands of fans. He has performed in many countries outside Africa, and he often draws mammoth crowds during his performances, which goes to show just how far his influence has gone.
In September, the singer achieved a major milestone in his career, as he made it to the Billboard Honor Roll of 2024 for topping the streaming charts. The singer was the only Nigerian singer to make it to the list, which was quite a big deal for any artist at all.
In April, Davido had bragged as he reflected on his musical journey. In a tweet, he expressed that since he came into the game, nobody has had peace, as he admitted that he loved that effect.
Last year, the Grammy nominee noted how people always come together to discredit him. However, God was working overtime for him. He declared that 2024 was his year as he admonished people to fix their speakers as he was coming.
He had also sent a message to his naysayers and those who underestimated him. The Afrobeat singer told his haters and critics never to play with God as he listed out his wins, noting how people mocked him for not having a Grammy nomination, and now he had it and much more.
