Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has created a stir online as she goes bald for a new movie role.
The movie star, via her Instagram page, shared a video of her cutting her hair as she revealed that she made the bold decision to showcase her dedication to her craft and the depth she brings to her character. In a lengthy post on her Instagram page, she said she always believed that to tell a story authentically, one must be willing to give everything to the role, even if it means stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
According to her, she knew she had to go beyond just the dialogue and emotions, and needed to make a physical transformation that would connect her even deeper with the character. For her, cutting her hair wasn’t just about changing her appearance but about shedding her comfort and embracing a new side of herself for the sake of the story.
Yvonne also revealed she is learning to speak the Yoruba language.
“I love my job too much not to take risks… I see myself as a tool to convey the appropriate message, if the script deserves it, I will do whatever needs to be done to give the story life.

I have always believed that to tell a story authentically, you must be willing to give everything to the role—even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone. This belief is what guided my decision to cut my hair for my ongoing movie, “AJA.” It wasn’t an easy decision, but for me, it was necessary to fully embody the character I’ve been entrusted to bring to life.
“AJA” is a powerful film, produced by the incredibly talented Titi Orire, and it tells a story that demands depth and transformation. We’re currently filming in Badagry, Nigeria, a location that adds to the richness and authenticity of the story. The movie features some of Nollywood’s finest talents, including Rotimi Fakunle, Bianca Ugowanne, and Gbohunmi David, and there’s a special appearance from a big name in the industry that I know will excite audiences.
For this role, I knew I had to go beyond just the dialogue and emotions; I needed to make a physical transformation that would connect me even deeper with the character. Yvonne isn’t the only one who has transformed for a movie role. In May, Jide Awobona called out popular film director and screenwriter Abey Jomo over his epic transformation. He revealed that he was placed on a heavy, strict diet for his character and shared a screenshot of the strict rules he was given. Questioning what he had done to him, he lamented over the rules.
Also, Bukunmi Oluwasina had proven how far she can go in interpreting her movie roles by shaving her hair and going on a diet. According to her, in her ten years of being an actor, this role was the most challenging and breathtaking role she had ever played. However, she was glad she can wear it like a dress.
