Steve Bould, a former Arsenal centre back, has been named manager of Lommel SK, a Belgian second division club affiliated with the City group.
This is Bould’s first managerial position since he was sacked as Arsenal U23s manager after a disappointing season in 2020, after a total of 33 years at the club. Since 2012, Bould had served as the assistant manager to Arsène Wenger.
Bould is best known for his role in several Arsenal title-winning teams, where he formed a formidable partnership with Tony Adams.
“Adams put through by Bould… would you believe it!” he says in the pre-match Emirates montage, referring to his assist for the title-clinching goal by Adams in the 1998 season.
Lommel SK is a Belgian second division club, but they are also part of the City group, which owns Manchester City.
In 2020, they joined New York FC, Melbourne City FC, Yokohama F Marinos, Montevideo City Torque, Mumbai City FC, Girona FC, Sichuan Jiuniu, and Troyes as the group’s ninth club.
The City group lends players between these clubs on a regular basis, with seven players sent to Lommel SK last year from various City sides.
The Arsenal legend said in an interview on the Lommel SK website: “I am delighted to join Lommel SK within City Football Group and to work with such a talented group of players. It is a great time to join the club.”
