Following Bruno Lage’s firing from Wolves last month, the club has announced that Julen Lopetegui will take over as their new head coach.
Lopetegui, 56, has an impressive résumé after holding leadership positions with Sevilla, Real Madrid, and Porto in Spain.
Subject to receiving a work permit, he will assume control at Molineux on Monday, November 14.
After the World Cup, on Monday, December 26, Lopetegui’s new team will travel to Everton for a Boxing Day match. This will be his first game in charge.
Under-18s coach Steve Davis will remain in charge for today’s game against Brighton, next Tuesday’s Carabao Cup match against Leeds, and Saturday’s home game against Arsenal.
Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said: “Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.
“Since the very beginning, Julen has been our No1 choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.”
Lopetegui’s most recent achievement was winning the Europa League with Sevilla in 2019-20.
But after a dismal start to the season, he was fired from his managerial position at the Andalucian team earlier this year.
With Wolves, a team that is currently 19th in the Premier League standings and two points from safety, he will now take on a new challenge.
