Christian Eriksen’s acquisition has given Manchester United an “absolute advantage,” according to new manager Erik ten Hag.
Following in the footsteps of Tyrell Malacia, Eriksen was officially announced as United’s second summer acquisition on Friday, just before the club also revealed a deal with Ajax to sign center-back Lisandro Martinez.
Prior to moving to Italy with Inter, the Dane was a Premier League superstar while playing for Tottenham. When he had a cardiac arrest while playing for his country at Euro 2020, his career there came to an abrupt end. Despite having an ICD implanted since then, he was medically unable to compete in Serie A.
Eriksen, however, proved during a brief stint with Brentford that he is still a valuable Premier League player and chose to accept an offer from United rather than continue playing for the Bees.
Ten Hag told ManUtd.com, “It’s an absolute advantage that we have him in.
“I think he is a magnificent football player and I think the fans will enjoy watching him, because he’s creative, he has ideas. I think especially our strikers will also be happy because he’s the one who can involve them in the game.”
Ten Hag emphasised that United’s priority in the transfer market this summer is quality over quantity, perhaps allaying some of the worries that the team hasn’t been active enough.
“I think we were really selective,” the boss said.
“It was not the point to get players in, but the right players in.”
