If Manchester United does not sign a right-back replacement before the transfer window closes, they are prepared to hold onto Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
United informed Wan-Bissaka that he could look for a move, and a number of clubs, including his former club Crystal Palace, have expressed interest. They are still hoping to sign him.
Erik ten Hag has been trying to sign a new right-back because he isn’t completely sold on Wan-Bissaka or Diogo Dalot, who is currently his first choice.
The American remains United’s most likely choice, but the club has also taken a close look at Josip Juranovic of Celtic and is kept informed of Sergino Dest’s predicament at Barcelona.
Early in the summer, United inquired about Dest, but the 21-year-old was focused on establishing himself at Camp Nou at the time.
Since then, however, Xavi has made it clear that he is not in his plans and is searching for a replacement right-back, with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin emerging as a target if they are unable to sign Juan Foyth from former Tottenham and Villarreal.
Ten Hag is eager to collaborate with another former Ajax player in Dest, and United is currently in discussions with Barcelona about the possibility of a loan, which is currently the most likely scenario for the American player should he move.
