Andy Robertson’s expected absence due to a knee injury has dealt Liverpool a blow ahead of their Champions League matchup with Ajax.
Last week, the Reds suffered the worst possible start to their Champions League campaign when Napoli soundly defeated them at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Robertson participated in that game for the entire 90 minutes, but he has since developed a knee injury. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Scotland captain won’t play on Tuesday due to a brace he had on over the weekend at the club’s training facility in Kirkby.
Jurgen Klopp will almost certainly choose Kostas Tsimikas to fill in for Robertson, despite the fact that Liverpool’s injury woes are beginning to mount.
Joel Matip has been limited to the bench this season due to groin problems, while Ibrahima Konate is currently out injured.
Similar injuries are affecting the midfield, where Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, and captain Jordan Henderson are all currently absent.
However, the summer signing of Fabio Carvalho is believed to have only sustained a dead leg during the Merseyside derby earlier this month. Thiago Alcantara returned in Naples to play for the first time in weeks.
Diogo Jota, a striker, will also make another appearance after making his first of the year at Goodison Park.
