Elsie Okpocha, the estranged wife of comedian Basketmouth has issued out a statement to marriage-shamers.
The mother of three took to her Instagram page to caution them against shaming unmarried women. Elsie noted how ladies and women get shamed for late marriages and late child birth.
The newly divorcee revealed that marriage isn’t easy as it requires hardwork, despite it being beautiful.
“It’s only in this part of this world that people make a big fuss about a woman not being married at a certain age.
U hear questions like ‘Aunty why are you not married?’ Is she going to marry herself, Elsie queried.
She added that, “People even go as far as suggesting for one to give birth.
When a woman isn’t married is because she is taking time or hasn’t found the right one”.
Touching on marriage, she said, “Marriage can be tough as beautiful as it can be. It requires hardwork”.
Basketmouth announces separation from wife
Just few days back, Basketmouth broke the internet when he announced the end of his marriage with his beautiful wife, Elsie.
The father of four made the announcement via his verified Instagram page on Thursday, December 22, where he assured to peacefully co-parent with his wife in taking care of their children.
The actor who didn’t give reasons for the divorce pleased with the public to respect their privacy.
The sad news had left many in disbelief as they noted how the comedian was fond of making expensive jokes.
“As much as it pains me to bring my personal life to the public space, this is an unavoidable situation.
“After much deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage.
“As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance and support they need.
“We humbly ask that you respect our privacy as we navigate through these times. Thank you,” he said.

Following the separation, Nigerians had dug up old video of the couple affirming their stance against divorce.
An old video of Basketmouth and Elsie kicking against divorce in an interview with, Wedding Channel Africa, has resurfaced online. In the interview, Basketmouth and Elsie vowed never to get divorce.
The comedian bragging avowed that there is no good marriage that end in divorce hence while he and Elsie can’t divorce.
The couple stated that divorce isn’t on their table as they love each other.
