Veteran Yoruba actress Lanre Adesina Hassan, popularly known as Iya Awero, has opened up on her love story and her thoughts on remarriage.
In a recent interview on Behind the Fame – African List, Lanre recalled how her husband supported her acting career while they were dating, but changed immediately they got married. She said her husband didn’t support her acting career after they got married and would always become violent and physically assault her whenever she went on a movie set.
The veteran said she didn’t enjoy her marriage for long, as death came knocking on her husband’s door.
Speaking on remarriage, Iya Awero said it isn’t for her as no one can predict what they would face in their next marriage.
“Our love story is a little powerful. Because when we were still dating, he was very happy that he allowed me to act. He even came to watch me at rehearsals. But, after we got married, he didn’t agree anymore. So sometimes, when I go to act and come home, he would beat me, saying didn’t he warn me not to act.
Though we didn’t get to enjoy the marriage for long because he died young.

Similarly, actress Opeyemi Aiyeola had opened up about how she blocked her colleagues in the industry after marriage because of her fear of divorce. The Yoruba actress recalled how she met her husband during the peak of her career and gave it up to start a family with him in London. She said that when she finally got herself back after ten years, she questioned who she had offended and told her husband it was time to focus on her career.
Unlike Iya Awero, Bukky Wright, who has been married four times, revealed in an interview that she is open to giving marriage a fifth chance. She, however, made it known that if God forbade her from getting married, she wouldn’t.
The famous actress was first married to Gboyega Amu (father of her two sons), a well known Journalist Femi Davies, Bolaji Basia and then, Adewale Onitiri who she parted ways with in 2014 after four years of marriage.
