Award-winning Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, better known by his stage name, Basketmouth, has spoken out on music icon 2face and his wife, Annie’s marital drama.
Taking to his social media page, he shared a video of him responding to those querying him for not speaking up despite his over two decades of relationship with the couple. Basketmouth made them know that he isn’t in the position or qualified to speak on it, especially with his divorce from his wife.
The comedian made it known that this year, he doesn’t want any dragging for himself, hence, why he is staying silent. He stated that the only way he would speak up was to address the likes of Toke and others contributing to it.
Basketmouth concurred with many that 2face should have waited before making the divorce announcement known and should have sought his opinion before making the announcement.
“I have been receiving lots of emails and DMs; people dey ask me, ‘Bright, why don’t you want to get involved in these Tuface and Annie’s matters?
First of all, to address you people, I am not in any position to get involved. I am not qualified at all, me especially. Make I no go talk the one wey go make people remember my own, con drag my head.
This 2025, wey we just enter, it’s a New Year and I am just trying to have undraggable year. So please, don’t push me.
You know I have known Tuface for almost half of my life, 27 years, and Annie for 24 years, and I respect and love these guys. My heart goes to them. If I am going to get involved in any way, it is to address you guys wey dey talk too much for their matter. Let’s just back off. They have got kids, they’ve got a family. Everybody just dey talk, Toke talk, this one dey talk, other things dey to talk about.
Personally, Tuface did me a strong thing. Personally, he fucked me up because, based on the fact say me and him don be men for a long time, e should have called me and told me what he wanted to do or post, and I would have put him through. I would have told him not to post it now and post it around late February because I get a tour; I have a show in Manchester on the 14th, and I have a show in London and other cities. Recall that Basketmouth also went through a divorce from his wife and mother of his kids, Elsie Okpocha. In 2022, the comedian announced the end of his marriage in an Instagram post. He assured to peacefully co-parent with her in caring for their children and pleaded with the public to respect their privacy.
Last year, Elsie gave a hint to the cause of her crashed marriage as she advised women with cheating spouses. She noted how a woman could be beautiful, sexy, and could have all good qualities, and yet their men would still cheat.
Early last year, an Instagram blogger had unveiled media personality, Victoria as the lady allegedly behind Basketmouth’s crashed marriage. According to the blogger, the two have been having an affair and are still going strong following his separation from his wife and the mother of his kids.
To mark the New Year, Basketmouth stirred the internet with a post about leaving a toxic relationship. He revealed that his ex underestimated him and took him for granted until she burnt him out. He said he stood taller and stronger than he ever was and noted how his comeback was so unexpected, but he reclaimed his power.
Similarly, his ex-wife, Elsie, had started the year by calling him out for brainwashing their son. She questioned why a father should tell his son of 16 years not to give his mother his password, as she slammed him for trying to frustrate her efforts because she decided to be happy.
